Document Description
It has been shown that family health history information uses in a clinical setting is useful for diagnosis, disease management, and treatment. Yet there has been little study of whether family health history tools used by individuals, families, and communities inspire measurable changes in behavior and communication within the family or with a healthcare provider. The Community Centered Family Health History (CCFFH) project began with the idea that accessible tools produced by the community for the community would promote conversation would promote conversations among family members about health within the family and the knowledge gained translate into healthy lifestyle choices. Iona College's role in the CCFFH Project was to increase students' knowledge and understanding of the healthcare needs of the aging population. This presentation summarizes the findings of the focus groups that explored student reaction to participation in in this project.
